THE POSITIONING COLLECTIVE
Helping leadership teams turn complex challenges into clear, actionable strategies.
Founded in 2020, Positioning Collective partners with founders and leadership teams to navigate complex challenges, resulting in unprecedented clarity.
We work hands-on with leadership teams to translate strategic intent into aligned decisions, behaviors, and execution, ensuring strategy doesn’t just exist on paper but shows up in how their companies operate and grow.
Our Founders
Alex Crawford
One of Alex’s favorite things in life—after family, good food, and travel—is an empty page.
For more than 25 years, he has helped organizations make sense of complex ideas, clarify what matters most, and turn that clarity into work people can actually act on. His experience spans global brands, growing companies, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations, navigating moments of change, growth, or reinvention.
Alex’s background combines strategic thinking, storytelling, brand development, and hands-on execution. But the thread running through all of it is a belief that good strategy should reduce noise—not create more of it. The best work doesn’t just sound smart in a presentation. It helps leaders make clearer decisions, align teams, and move forward with confidence.
At Positioning Collective, Alex works closely with leadership teams to shape positioning, narrative, brand direction, and strategic initiatives that hold up under real-world pressure. Clients value his ability to connect ideas across disciplines, simplify complexity, and build clarity that carries through into decisions, behavior, and execution.
As one longtime collaborator put it, “Alex has a highly functioning bullshit detector and a rare ability to turn complexity into direction people can actually use.”
Cofounder & Creative Director
One of Krista’s favorite things—alongside a good conversation, time with her family, or being near the water—is learning about people and situations in depth. Curiosity is core to her being, with questions like:
What’s really going on here?
For more than a decade, she has worked at the intersection of positioning, communication, and leadership, helping founders and executives make sense of how they are seen, where they’re going, and what it takes to bring those two into alignment.
Her work is grounded in a belief that positioning is not just about messaging. It’s about clarity at a deeper level—understanding the relationship between identity, expertise, ambition, and perception. At its best, positioning becomes an expression of what she calls aspirational authenticity: a reflection of who you are on your best day, and a direction that allows for continued growth.
Underlying this is a broader perspective she brings to her work—what she thinks of as a more becoming-led approach to positioning. Rather than anchoring solely in the past or projecting too far into the future, her work helps leaders position from a place that honors both who they are and who they are in the process of becoming.
At Positioning Collective, Krista leads the development of the firm’s positioning frameworks and works closely with clients to shape how they show up across brand, communication, and leadership presence. Her work often extends beyond traditional strategy into helping leaders understand how authority, trust, and perception are built over time—and how to shape them in a way that feels both intentional and deeply their own.
As one client put it, Krista has “an ability to see the throughline between who you are, what you do, and what you’re becoming—and then help you actually build it.”

Our Founder’s Philosophy
We believe positioning is a business decision, not a messaging exercise. Most companies do not have a marketing problem, they have a clarity problem. When companies are clear on what they do, who they serve, and why they matter, everything moves faster. Teams align, decisions get easier, and execution improves. We take a hands-on, operator-led approach, focusing on practical strategies leaders can use in the real world.
When Leaders Call Us
-
Growth has outpaced structure. The company is scaling, but the story, positioning, and internal alignment are starting to break down.
-
The team is debating brand direction without a shared strategy, leading to slow decisions and inconsistent outcomes.
-
The leadership team is strong individually, but not aligned collectively on what the company stands for and where it is going.
-
Your leaders have valuable perspectives and expertise, but there is no clear, aligned narrative shaping how the company shows up in the market. Without a consistent point of view, opportunities to build trust, influence, and differentiation are lost.
-
The company has grown through M&A, but the brand architecture and narrative have not caught up, creating confusion in the market.
-
The company is expanding into new markets, but the positioning and messaging do not yet reflect the needs of the new audience.
-
The product portfolio has grown, but without a clear structure. It is hard for customers and teams to understand what fits where.
-
Your founder has a compelling story and perspective, but the messaging, leadership presence, and company positioning are not working together to build trust, differentiation, and long term brand equity.
